Aldourie Castle, Inverness

What an honour to be asked by Charlotte Freemantle and Will Fischer from Jamb to help with their Scottish Highlands project, Aldourie Castle; a 300-year-old Baronial castle on the banks of the enchanting Loch Ness surrounded by 500 acres of gardens, woodland and wildflower meadows.

Primarily we were there to look at the Great Drawing Room which had previously held fabric walling. Drapped in a red damask silk which was quite popular during the 80s and 90s, Charlottes vision was to soften the room more in keeping with the castle surroundings.

‘The key element was honouring it being a Scottish country house,’ says Charlotte, ‘but for Anne and me it was getting away from dark wood and tartan, to the feeling of a house at ease with the wide skies and the changing colours of the loch and hills.’ -
